Stainless: most new stainless steel products contain 60% recycled material.
Apart from having an attractive lustre, the high resistance to corrosion and staining of stainless steel makes it ideal for many commercial applications including plant containers. All stainless steel products shown here are high specification and are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
In metallurgy, stainless steel, also known as inox steel and CRES (corrosion resistant steel), is defined as a steel alloy with a minimum of 10.3% chromium content by mass.
It is a tough, durable material and retains it’s stain resistant properties after scratching as the chromium in the material
combines with oxygen in the air for form a microscopic layer of chromium oxide. This passive layer prevents any further corrosion.
There are hundreds of types and grades of stainless steels and their properties vary in accordance with use. Some are harder but less malleable, some are resistant to high temperatures but less corrosion resistant. The most common type in use is the 300 series with 304 and 316 used for high quality plant containers for indoor and outdoor use. Both types are resistant to impact damage. 316 is extremely durable and is used in swimming pool environments. All products on this site are 2mm thick 304 grade with 316 grade as an option.
